From Laura to Karolina

Posted in by Unknown | Edit

Hi Karolina!

I’m Laura, a student of Spain, I will explain you some things about me and my school.

We have a lot of subjects; Catalan, Spanish, English, Geography, Maths, Science, Physical Education, Art, and some more.

My favourite subject is Science.

And I don’t like Physical Education.

In my school we don’t wear a uniform, and when you come here you can bring some normal clothes, but a tracksuit, because we wear a tracksuit for Physical Education, and you should wear trainers to go on school trips, and if you want you can take boots to go out.

My school has got three floors;

In the first floor there are the children classes (the children are 3-5 years old), the secretary, the staff room, meeting room, the director’s room, the living room and some toiletes.

On the second floor there are the primary classes (students who are 6-12 years old), the arts classroom, a library, and some toiletes.

On the third floor there are the ESO classes (to people who has 12-16 years old), the lab, another library, and some toiletes too.

If you want you can bring a bag with some money (maybe one day we’ll go shopping), or a MP-3.

A mobile phone isn’t necessary to bring because I’ll lend you my mobile phone, or maybe you can communicate with your family by internet.

And you don’t have to bring a notebook, or any pen, because I have a lot of them, and I can lend them you!

I wake up at 7:30 a.m. I dress, and at 7:45 a.m. but when you stay here I’ll wake up more earlier, I have a shower and then I have the first breakfast, because in the school we have another breakfast, and at 8:15 a.m I leave to school, by car.

At 13:00 p.m we go out of the school, and we have lunch, at 15:00 p.m we start school again, but only for 2 more hours of class, and at 17:00 p.m. we finish school.

Everybody goes home, but some people have some activities.

I have Basketball: on Mondays at 20:15 p.m

on Wednesdays at 18:30 p.m

on Fridays at 18:15 p.m

And I have English lessons on Thursdays, and Thursdays at 19:00 p.m.

You should bring a jacket because in March it could be hot or it could be cold, but I think in March will be more cold than hot.

I normally do the homework at night, but it’s not necessary that you stay with me then, if you want, you can watch TV, listen to music, or read magazines.

In my free time I read magazines, I listen to music, sometimes I watch TV, or meet my friends or go shopping.

I hope to see you soon (In 2 weeks…)

Bye, bye!

From Carla to Elin

Posted in by Unknown | Edit

Hi Elin!

I write this letter to explain you things that you want to know when you come here.

First, I want to describe Castellar del Vallès. It’s the village where I live now. It don’t have a lot of places to go to have fun, but we are happy with them. One example is “Plaça Catalunya”. There we meet with all of my friends of Castellar. Another example is “El Bar Calisó”. It’s like a restaurant but with some sofas and we go there to have diner sometimes. In Castellar we have a Skate Park too. A lot of boys like to go there with skate or BMX. Some of them are very good at it and win a lot of competitions. The problem is that we don’t have any cinemas, discos or a shopping center for example.

In our school you can wear your normal clothes, because we don’t have uniforms except the school tracksuit, and it’s horrible.

The weather in March is not so cold here, so I think it’s not necessary a jacket, but is necessary a sweater.

I have to do homework every day, but I don’t want to do it when you come here. On Wednesday I have drama classes and you will have to stay with Maria and Linnea.

We don`t have any plans yet of what we want to do when you come here, it will be a surprise.

You should bring some CDs,

See you soon!

From Dídac to André

Dear André,

It’s been a long time since we last chat, see if one day we can talk again! Well, you’ll be coming to Catalonia in only two weeks, and I’m writing you this letter to give you some advice on this trip.
First of all, you ought to know what kind of clothes you have to take here according to the weather. When you come here there will be nice sunny weather, but still you should take a jacket just in case. It might rain, but you needn’t worry about umbrellas.
Another thing that is really interesting to know about is food. Apart from “paella” and “tapas” we have a wide variety of different meals, most of them really good. I am sure you have heard about “pà amb tomàquet”, that is, bread with some tomatoes spread over it together with cheese or ham. As easy and simple it might look, it is really good and extremely patriotic.
About a sightseeing tour around Barcelona, there are plenty of nice places to see. You might like “la Pedrera” or “la Casa Batllò”, all of them built by Antoni Gaudi, a very famous and important modernist architect. You could also see “el Port Vell”, a very interesting place to visit. I have been to Barcelona very few times, so it’s a bit difficult to talk about places to visit, but I’m sure that you’ll find good places to go.
Here, in Castellar, you might get a bit bored. Castellar hasn’t got (yet) a cinema. It is a pity, as we would enjoy it very much. The best thing to do is to go to Sabadell, which is near Castellar. It’s uglier, but there are plenty of things to do in the afternoon (not that we will have much time to spend in Sabadell, although we could also go there during the weekend).
Anyway, I hope I have helped you to know what you will find here when you come in two weeks.

Yours,

Dídac Fenoll

From Marta to Jenny

Posted in by Unknown | Edit

Hi, Jenny !

How are you? I’m very well, and I’m very excited because it’s only three weeks for your visit! You will come in March, and in these days the weather is good, so you don’t have to wear a thick coat. We don’t have to wear a uniform to school because we can wear casual clothes.

On Wednesday we do Physical education. We must wear a tracksuit from the school, but you have to wear sportclothes and trainers.

My school is big and it’s on a mountain. It has got three floors, and my class is on the last floor. On the first floor there are the children classes, secretary and dining room, on the second floor there are the primary classes and on the last floor there are the ESO classes. In the morning we start at half past eight and we finish at one o’clock. At half past ten we go to the playground and we have thirty minutes for breakfast. After that, I go home and I have lunch, and at three o’clock the classes stats again until five o’clock. We have dining room, but I prefer lunch at home. Everyday I go to school by car, because it’s very far from my house, so you can wear the kind of shoes that you want. On Monday, Tuesday, and Friday after school I have basketball training.

Some days you will do class, and to take notes you need pens and some sheets, but I can lend it to you, so you don’t have to bring it. The other days we will do some trips, for that you can bring a bag or handbag (what you prefer), because it is more convenient to bring your personal things, water and other things.

You shouldn’t bring an umbrella, because it only rains sometimes. If these days it will rain I’ll lend you one.

See you soon.

Marta.

From Dani to Clara

Posted in by Unknown | Edit

Hi Clara!!

I'm writing this e-mail to you to tell you more things about me, my school, my town and all this kind of staff what you have to know when you come here.

Well, first of all, I'll tell you about my school. Talking about the clothing, you can wear anything, but it's better if you don't look so much casual. In Spain, spring is usually quite hot, so I recommend you to take light clothes. On Wednesdays you have to wear a tracksuit and it isn't allowed to wear jewellery because we have PE class. Take your trainers too for that class because if you don't wear them, the professor won't let you participate in the class. The rest of the days you don't have to wear anything special, because you will be doing activities and visiting places. I recommend you to take your camera, because you'll visit lots of beautiful places.

In the afternoons, after the classes we will hang out together with all our class mates, we'll stay in Castellar and we'll go to visit Sabadell and Barcelona too. I don't think we'll have homework that week, so don't worry about it.

Let's talk about my family and my house. I live very near the school in a big white house. I live with my mother, Elena (she is 41 and she works in the townhouse), her husband, Guillem (Guillem is 42, and he is an architect), and my little sister, Anna. I have an older sister too, but she doesn't live with us (she is 20 and she lives with her boyfriend). When you come here, you will sleep with my little sister.

Castellar is a little town, it's near Barcelona and Sabadell, two important cities, so there aren't much things to do here. Our town is very nice and we are surrounded by nature so it's a good place to live. In Sabadell, you'll find lots of other things to do and lots of places to go: Malls, shops, cinemas, cafes, … So probably, we will go there when we hang out. Finally, Barcelona is just amazing. It is a quite big city with lots of inhabitants, lots of places to visit, monuments, cinemas, etc... But it's between the sea and the mountains, I think all of you will like it.

Well Clara that's all. I hope to hear about you soon.

Bye!! See you soon!!

Dani

an email from Andrea to Gabriella

Posted in by Unknown | Edit
Hi Gabriella!
I’m sending this email to 6tell you some things that you have to know for the visit.

In my school we don’t have to wear a uniform, so you can wear what you want, but try not to wear tracksuits, doesn’t like it very much the director.
Caps aren’t allowed in my school. Jewellery isn’t allowed in P.E. class, because you could hurt yourself or someone.

We start classes at 8:30 am. At 10:30 am we have a break of 30 minutes. In this break some people have breakfast: a sandwich or something like that. Then we have a break to have lunch at 13:00 pm. At 15:00 pm we start classes again. And we finish at 17:00 pm.

On Wednesday afternoon we have P.E, for two hours, so you mustn’t forget your trainers and a tracksuit.
On Friday that you’ll stay here, there won’t be school. On that day we, all the people in the class together we will organise some activity, but it will be optional.

You should bring your pencilcase with pens, pencil, rubber… well, something to write and something to write on, like a notebook or papers, because I think you will do writing activities and work.

I don’t know the activities you are going to do, but I think that you won’t have my timetable, if you have my timetable I will send you another email to explain the different subjects and what we do in each other.

The weather in March isn’t rainy, but I recommend you to bring an umbrella, if you can’t bring it, I will lend you my umbrella. In March it isn’t very warm, for us, of course, but you should bring clothes to be at ten or fifteen degrees.

In the evening I do athletics on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, but the week that you’ll come here, I won’t do it. I suppose I will have homework like every day, if you have homework too we can do it together. If we don’t have homework, you can stay on the computer chatting with your family or friends in Sweden. Or you can watch Spanish TV or listen to music. I listen to all kinds of music, but if you prefer, you can bring your favourite music from home.
So, I think that’s all.

Ah, remember that I have a dog, I hope you aren’t scared of dogs.

See you soon!! J

FROM MARIA TO LINNEA

Posted in by Unknown | Edit

Hi Linnea!

I’m writing this email to tell you some things about my town, Castellar del Vallès, my school, “El Casal” and my family. I think that it is important that you know these things because you must be informed when you arrive here.

My town is called Castellar del Vallès. It is a small town in Barcelona, next to Sabadell (another town but bigger than Castellar. We usually go shopping and go to the cinema there). We have next to us some towns like Sant Llorenç Savall, Matadepera, Terrasa, Sabadell and Sentmenat. In Castellar, there is one small river, it is called Ripoll. We are 22.714 inhabitants in Castellar. There are some important buildings like “Castell de Clasquerí” or San Esteve’s church. The teenagers love some squares, “Plaça Catalunya” is very important for them!

My school is “El Casal”. This school is next to an important mountain in Castellar, “El Puig de la Creu”. My school is 20 years old (the building) but it’s just new inside, because two years ago they had fixing works in it. It has three floors: the first floor is for the secretary, the dining room (because we haven’t got a canteen or buffet) and the smallest children. The second floor is for primary, and the third floor is for ESO.
In the class or the school we have some rules. We have to wear the school’s tracksuit every Tuesday because we have physical education. We never have a shower in the school. We can’t wear tracksuit on the other days. We can’t be in the hall during the class change, you have to be at your desk, preparing the books for the next class.
We must go to the toilet if the teacher say us that we can. We start school at 8:30 am until 1 o’clock pm. IN the morning, at 10 to 10:30 am, we have breakfast time. Then, at lunch time, we can choose if if we want to have lunch in the school or at home.
At 3 pm we have class until 5 pm. All the days are the same hours. We must bring the books for the different classes. Our timetable is different every day. Then, in our houses, each family is different. Maybe there are a few people who have extra activities or something like this. Every afternoon we have to do homework.

My family isn’t small.
My mother is Trini. She’s 46 years old. She is housewife. She is very funny and she’s always happy.
My father is Fernando. He’s 45 years old. He is a businessman. He is more serious than my mother. He has got very dark skin.
I have a twin brother, he is Ferran. He is in my class. He drive karts on the weekends. He is shy and nice.
I have one little sister too. She’s Anna. She is 6 years old.
And I have a dog too!

See you soon!
Maria.

FROM IRENE TO SOFIA HALLBERG

Posted in by Unknown | Edit
Hi Sofia!

How are you? And how were your holidays? I was in London with a friend, and it was so fun! I love travelling, and I really want to go Sweden, because I think that it could be so fun, and we can learn a lot of things about other countries. I’m very excited with the project, and I hope that we can live together, because it’s so easy talking to you and we have a lot of things in common.
I thought that you want to know some things about Spain before you come, so I’m going to write some essential things that you’ve got to know, about my town, my school, my family and my routine.

I live in Castellar del Vallès, a little town, but it’s nice. There aren’t a lot of shops, but it isn’t a problem, because it’s near Sabadell, a big town that has shopping centres. In my town there are some places where we can have fun, like Plaça Catalunya, where we can meet friends and have a great time, or Espai Tolrà. We can do some activities after school in Pavelló Puigvert, where we can play basketball, in Camp de Futbol Pepín Valls, where we can play football, or in Escola de Dansa Parc, where we can do different kinds of dances. There are two music bands that sometimes play in my town, Pit-Lane and Macedònia. If they do some concerts, we can go. They are great! In March, the weather is sunny, but it’s a little cold, so you should bring a jacket. You don’t have to bring an umbrella or a rain coat when you come to Spain, because it hardly ever rains here, and if you need one you con borrow my sister’s umbrella.

In Castellar there are a lot of houses, and a lot of schools. My school is El Casal, and I live very near it. I only have to walk 2 minutes, and I’m in the school. It’s a small school, and everybody knows all the people. We don’t have to wear uniform, so you can wear the clothes that you want. We’ve got a school’s tracksuit that we’ve got to wear when we go out with the school and when we have P.E. Jewellery is allowed in my school, except when we have P.E. We’ve got this subject on Wednesday afternoon, so you mustn’t forget your trainers and a tracksuit. At break time we must go to the playground, except when it rains, when we stay in the class. In the playground the boys and the girls that are in ESO 4 make some cakes, and then they sell them to get money to pay the end of the year trip. My favourite subjects are English, Catalan and Biology, and I do it on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. I hate Maths, because I’m so bad at it. We have Art on Friday and Music on Tuesday. I’ve got to do homework all the afternoons, but I hope that I don’t have to do it when you come.

Maybe you want to know something about my family, so I’m going to tell some things about them.
My mother’s name is Teresa. She’s 41 years old. She works in El Corte Inglés, a department store in Sabadell. She has 3 brothers, Marcos, Sergio and Dani. She hates cooking but she does it well. Her specialities are macaroni, paella, lasagne and potato omelette. In her free time she draws. She talks a lot, but she doesn’t speak English, only a little.
My father’s name is Martin. He’s 41 years old. He works in a building company. He has 2 sisters, Toñi and Ester. He loves cycling and running. He loves motorbikes, and he has two. He cooks very badly, but his speciality is pizza. He’s so shy.
My sister’s name is Marta. She’s 9 years old. She goes to El Casal too. In her free time she dances. She loves watching Disney Channel and to make up. She’s shy when she meets new people. She loves annoying me, but she’s nice.
My dog’s name is Negreta. She’s a Schnauzer Miniature. She’s so friendly.
I meet my grandmother, my uncles and my cousins every Saturday, and we go out to have lunch.

Now I’m going to tell you something about my routine.
When I finish school, I go to my house and I do my homework. Some days I meet my friends after school, so I do my homework when I go home. If I don’t meet my friends, after doing my homework, I go running with my father. I run for an hour, and later I take a shower and I have dinner. If the next day I have an exam I study, or if I haven’t got anything to do I surf the Internet and I chat with my friends. Before going sleep, I walk the dog, and later I listen to music or I watch T.V.

I’m looking forward to meeting you in March!
See you soon,

Irene Rodríguez

FROM JÚLIA TO HANNAH

Posted in by Unknown | Edit

Hi Hannah!

The reason why I send you a letter is that in one month you will come to Spain and I want to explain you some things about my school, my house, my town and my family. My school’s name is “El Casal” and it’s so small. I don’t have to wear uniform to school and you can wear normal and casual clothes, but when we have PE we must wear the school tracksuit and if we don’t wear it we can’t have the class. My favourite subject is Maths, I think it’s easy and fun and I don’t need to study a lot. We go to school every morning at 8:30 and during the winter I go by car because the weather is cold. You will come to Spain in March and the weather is usually springtime, that means 20 degrees at midday and 15 degrees at night.

My house is near the school and I walk home every afternoon. I usually go to my house with my best friends Carlota, Estel and Ana and we do our homework together. I do Ballet twice a week and my mother is my dance teacher. I have two young brothers, Pau and Bari and they are so annoying. My house is beautiful and I will prepare a bedroom for you next to me. I have a small swimming pool and if you want we can swim on a sunny day.

I live in Castellar del Vallès, it’s a small town but it’s good. I meet with my friends every weekend and our favourite places in Castellar are “La Calisso”, it’s a fast restaurant with sofas and a big TV, “Andrevi” is the best coffee shop in Castellar, Catalunya square and the Skate Park.

Hannah, I want to see you soon. If you want you can send me a short letter with information about Sweden, your family, your school and you!

Lots of Love!

Júlia.
